PAPA MODERATOR VISITS CHRIST THE KING CONGREGATION–SEBREPOR

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, visited Christ the King Congregation–Sebrepor during the congregation’s forenoon service.

During his visit, the Moderator reflected on his busy schedule and expressed his personal connection to Sebrepor. He described Rev. Raphael Odzweni Kingbi Adjei, the District Minister, as his own minister and recalled his longstanding relationship with the congregation. He shared memories of preaching his first sermon at Christ the King and celebrating his first communion there.

The Moderator also highlighted the congregation’s remarkable growth, noting that Christ the King has developed from a small church he knew as a young boy into a major congregation and district. He expressed pride in the progress of both the congregation and the Sebrepor District and encouraged members to continue advancing in prayer and the Word of God.

Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s 200th Anniversary

A major part of the Moderator’s message focused on the 200th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in 2028. He reflected on previous milestones—the 50th anniversary in 1878, the centenary in 1928, and the 150th anniversary in 1978—and noted that the 2028 celebration will mark a historic milestone for the church.

He announced that a grand 200th anniversary celebration is planned for Black Star Square in Accra in 2028, bringing together Presbyterians from across Ghana and the diaspora.

Growth of the Church in the Diaspora

The Moderator also spoke about the growth of Presbyterian congregations outside Ghana. He cited the strong participation of members, particularly at the Presbyterian Women's Fellowship conference in Columbus, Ohio, as evidence of the church's expanding presence internationally.

Kutunse Project

The Moderator concluded by discussing the Kutunse Project, explaining that the land was acquired about 30 years ago and that plans for the project have developed over the years.

He noted that the first phase, including a 1,600-capacity conference hall, began last year, with hopes that the facility will be completed and delivered to the church by the end of 2026. He further expressed hope that the wider Kutunse Project could be commissioned around the 2028 jubilee celebrations.

He encouraged every Presbyterian to contribute financially toward the project and ended his address with prayer and the benediction.

Key message: The visit celebrated Christ the King Congregation–Sebrepor’s growth, highlighted its historical connection with the Moderator, looked ahead to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s 200th anniversary in 2028, and called on members to support the church’s ongoing development projects.
